In English core, our class continues working on SVG ( Spelling Vocabulary Grammar) packets. We learnt about pronouns, nouns, subject nouns, complete sentences etc. Basically ,we learn about the correct or proper way of English literature. Our class writes poems too for history projects . We learnt about figures of speech : metaphors, similes, personification, etc.. There is also this reading of books in class called tiger time to improve our vocabulary and writing skills. To help enhance our studying, we have to annotate pages. That means to write a comment on the side of the paper you are assigned to annotate.
On second quarter in English, our class learned about principal parts of verbs. This involved :irregular verbs, simple tenses, verb pairs, action verbs and objects, transitive verbs, direct objects, linking verbs, and predicate verbs. There were many different verbs that we had to study. We also wrote DBQs, documentary based questions for history for the Chinese civilization.
Since we were learning about Japan in history, our class was working on Japanese haiku. A Japanese haiku is basically a Japanese poem. It consists of seventeen syllables . Five syllables on the first line, seven on the second, and five on the third line. We are also reading about two best friends. One of the boy lost his family, as well as his home with his fishermen family. From reading this , we learnt about the different styles of writing and how to plot a story. For example , a plot consists of and exposition, rising action, climax , falling action, and a resolution.
To commemorate our successful drama class play, our core teacher dedicated English to the famous playwright and stage master, William Shakespeare! Fourth quarter core consisted of one of Shakespeare's famous works, Titus Andronicus. We learned of the blood, the gory, and the murder back in the time of Shakespeare when people were highly entertained in slaughter and killing. Also, we learnt of the Shakespearean compliments and insults (for kids). For example, a compliment: "You are a precious-thunder-darting-welsh cheese" and an insult would be "You greasy-onion-eyed-egg-shell" . It was a fun and educational lesson!
